I had big plans for the garden this Memorial Day w I had big plans for the garden this Memorial Day weekend… but the rain had other ideas.

We still have all of our vegetables to plant, and I was hoping to get a good bit of it done today. Instead, I’m standing here watching the garden get absolutely soaked.

I’m trying to be thankful for the rain, but I’m also hoping the next two days give us a little break so I can finally get these plants in the ground.

Garden season never goes exactly as planned, does it?

There is something so beautiful about watching a c There is something so beautiful about watching a child hold new life in his hands.

Marcus hatched these little turkey poults, and Maddie was completely taken with one of the babies. A turkey poult is just a baby turkey, but watching him gently hold it, love it, and care about it reminded me again why I am so thankful for this way of life.

I love what this lifestyle offers our children. It gives them the chance to slow down, notice the smallest things, care for living creatures, and feel connected to the world around them in a way that is hard to explain until you see it.

But honestly, as much as I know this is a gift to them, it is just as much a gift to me.

Watching a child love nature, hold something tiny with such care, and understand that life is precious is one of those simple moments I never want to forget. This is the kind of beauty that makes all the work worth it. #TurkeyPoults

Memorial Day is next weekend, and this morning the Memorial Day is next weekend, and this morning the boys and I had the honor of placing flags on veterans’ tombstones.

It was a simple morning, but one that means a lot. Taking the time to remember the men and women who served, and helping the boys understand why we pause on Memorial Day, is something I never want to take for granted.

Grateful for the freedom we have, and for those who gave so much for it.

I saw this sign at a garden center, and it felt li I saw this sign at a garden center, and it felt like the perfect reminder.

“Everyone should have a sanctuary in their own backyard.”

Isn’t that what so many of us are really trying to create? Not anything fancy or perfect, just a little place where the worries get quieter, the flowers keep growing, and life feels simple and refreshing again.

Whether it’s a garden bed, a porch chair, a few herbs by the door, or a corner of the yard that brings you peace, I think we all need a little bit of paradise close to home.

The hardest part of spring gardening is waiting. I The hardest part of spring gardening is waiting.
I have seedlings I started myself, a few store-bought plants, and they all look ready to go into the garden, but our nights are still too cool for some of them. So for now, they are staying on the patio with morning sun, water, and a little protection until the weather settles. Tomatoes, peppers, basil, and tender plants are worth waiting on. Brassicas and lettuce can handle the cooler nights better, but the warm-weather plants need a little more patience.
